Hello from Helen
Hello, I’m Helen and I am excited to be delivering Musical Bumps classes in North West Kent! As a child, I learnt to play the piano and was a member of the school madrigal choir. My interest in music was reignited when I joined Musical Bumps classes as a parent where I enjoyed learning new songs and made new friends. I also bonded well with the teacher so when, in September 2012, she informed me of the chance to become a teacher myself, I snapped up the opportunity to begin teaching Musical Bumps to children at my local nursery. Since then I have taught many classes all over Kent but am thrilled to now have my own Musical Bumps business.
Through Musical Bumps classes, I want to share my passion and enthusiasm for music education and all the benefits it brings! I look forward to sharing this experience with you.
Classes
All of our classes support the Early Years Foundation Stage and are carefully planned to enhance early speech and language development with music, fun and games for both child and carer. Adults are encouraged to participate fully – children are more engaged and involved when they see their special adult joining in too. You need to allow an hour for each class which includes time for refreshments and socialising.
2+
Our 2+ classes are for children aged two years and above. These classes are gently structured, and learning is through play and fun. We cover a variety of topics, with puppets and props as an integral part of each class to encourage children to join in and start to use their singing voices. With carefully chosen games and songs, musical skills and concepts are introduced and practised using a wide variety of percussion instruments. Children learn to listen, to take turns and even to tidy up!
Under 2s
Our under 2s classes are for children from birth to two years old. We do our best to ensure that the content of the class covers this age range. Babies are welcome to feed, be walked, rocked – their individual needs come first. Sometimes babies sleep during the class but much of what we do is to give you ideas for activities to share at home with your baby and it won’t be long before they are are very alert throughout the class, watching, listening and taking in everything that goes on around them. Toddlers in this class benefit from joining in with actions, clapping, singing and dancing! There are instruments and puppets for everyone (we don’t expect them to share resources at this stage!); the classes are relaxed and child-led, although following the same structure every week, which small children find reassuring and increases their confidence.
Family Music
This class is for children aged from 0-4 years old. Elements within the class will be adapted for different ages – in the same way, that fitness classes contain different movements for different abilities.
