Musical Bumps sessions for babies, toddlers and preschool children are available for Nurseries and Pre-schools.
Classes fulfil all the musical (and many of the creative) elements of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Our sessions are broadly based on the Kodaly methodology in early childhood music education. This system places great emphasis on the use of traditional children’s song and follows a clear progression for learning key musical skills and concepts. Also, in the course of our music sessions, many non-musical skills and concepts will be practised, learnt and understood – for example gross and fine motor skills, speaking and listening skills, choosing, turn-taking, reading signs and symbols, counting and sorting.
As aids to learning and to ensure children are fully engaged in activities, we make use of high quality puppets, percussion and props. Visiting teachers bring everything needed including recorded music and CD player.
Musical Bumps teachers are trained by an expert team of musicians and teachers; they are themselves experienced musicians and Early Years practitioners; they also each hold an enhanced disclosure certificate for working with children and young people and receive ongoing training and support from Musical Bumps head office.
Musical Bumps classes are very popular in nurseries – both as an activity for the children and as an opportunity for on-going professional development for staff. It is always a real pleasure to see nursery staff using our songs and activities and we encourage staff to get as involved as possible. One nursery manager recently wrote: “The children get so excited every Wednesday ... they ask all week if today is music day. When the pop-up puppet comes out they are mesmerized ... following its every move and singing accordingly ... Thank you – we love it!”
